Toradora 15th Anniversary Celebrations! Here’s What Came Out

Toradora! is a Japanese light novel series that debuted in 2006. It was created by Yuyuko Takemiya and illustrated by Yasu. The original light novel series was published in Japan by ASCII Media Works, which is a division of KADOKAWA under their Dengeki Bungou imprint. The novels were later adapted into manga the following year and finally into anime in 2009.

The anime adaptation was directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai and produced by studio JC Staff, the name that is famous for creating anime like “Food Wars: Shougeki No Soma” and “Konosuba.” This 25 episode anime had its original airing from October 2008 to March 2009. The anime only had one season. Even if Toradora! was initially successful, it gained more fans over the years. It has now been 15 years since the manga was published. This is why Toradora will celebrate its 15th anniversary.

The series revolves around Ryuji Takasu and Taiga Aisaka, two high school students who both have deceptive appearances. They have a very bad first impression of each other but realize that each of their crushes is each other’s best friend. They decide to help each other. Although initially the two started off as sort of enemies, they slowly realize that they enjoy each other’s company. The title of the series “Toradora!” is derived from the names of our two main characters. ‘Tora’ for Taiga as it means Tiger in Japanese and ‘Dora’ for Ryuji as the reverse Kanji letter for ‘Ryu’ means dragon (Doragon). Toradora! is, overall, an emotional journey for anime fans to go on.

For their 15th anniversary celebrations, besides the new PV, they will also be releasing new original character products in Japan from March 26, 2022. These products include art prints, hoodies, wall tapestries, and teacup sets at places like Dengekiya, the Kadokawa Stores, etc.

More on the plot:

Ryuji Takasu is about to experience his first day of high school. He feels optimistic as he finds himself in the same class as his best friend Yusaku Kitamura and his crush, the sweet Minori Kushieda. However, he also meets the school’s creepy Tsundere, Taiga Aisaka, who is ironically his crush’s best friend. Taiga has a very bad habit of violently attacking other classmates if she gets angry. While Ryuji looks very intimidating because of his eyes, he is actually a neat freak. It only takes first impressions for the two to hate each other. But when Ryuji finds out that she loves his friend Yusaku, he realizes they should help each other.

Throughout the series, the two make many plans to set up romantic situations to get to know their crushes. But, one way or another, those plans always seem to backfire. At the same time, their friends seem to notice Ryuji and Taiga spending too much time together. This then leads to rumors that they are dating. At first Ryuji and Taiga try to shake off the rumors but instead they find that they are starting to enjoy each other’s company. They discover each other’s true personalities behind their outward appearances. Taiga visits Ryuji’s house to share meals, and Ryuji regularly checks on her and cleans for her. We also get the appearance of a new character, Yusaku’s childhood friend Ami Kawashima. She calls herself a ditz but is actually a rich, spoiled and rather mean brat. She becomes Taiga’s main rival for Ryuji’s affections. The series follows Ryuji and Taiga’s romantic journey to their confession.

Will there be a Toradora! Season 2 ?

It’s been a while since the series was released, and so far fans have to see an OVA episode two after that. JCStaff studios have never denied the possibility of a second season. Since the original light novel series is only 10 volumes long, it has already been adapted into the first season of the anime. Only parts of the anime differed from the original source. So this could be a major problem for any streaming site looking to pick up this popular rom-com series. However, we got a new PV for the 15th anniversary celebrations, and the studio promises even more surprises to come. So fans shouldn’t feel too discouraged.
