Director James Gunn has revealed that another spin-off of The Suicide Squad is coming. Gunn was the captain of some of the great superhero movies of both the DCEU and the MCU. His recent film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, has made headlines, and so has the Peacemaker series, starring John Cena.
The eight-part show, the first spin-off of its DC movie, is midway through its first season on HBO Max. It opened to rave reviews from fans already wanting to see a side story about the Squad members. Based on those reviews, Gunn has now revealed that another series is planned.
Speaking to Deadline, James Gunn confirmed that he is working on a new spin-off of The Suicide Squad after Peacemaker. While the director didn’t share many details about it, the publication reported that the series is already in its infancy. “We’re working on something else now, another TV show that’s connected to that universe. I can’t say exactly,” Gunn said.
HBO Max has not yet officially confirmed the news. But this shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans, as James Gunn also mentioned that Peacemaker is the biggest show in the world right now, so it would only make sense if they wanted to. The GOTG helmer also revealed that the new spin-off would be tied to The Suicide Squad and the John Cena starrer.
Meanwhile, James has also teased a second season of the current spin-off. In the same interview, he said there’s a “really good chance” he and HBO will team up again for season two of John Cena’s show.
It’s a good day for DC fans as they were not only teased for the second season of Peacemaker, but also the news surrounding another spin-off of The Suicide Squad.
