The Incredible Dr. Pol Season 20 Episode 8 Recap

In the eighth episode of the 20th season, titled “On Pigs And Needles”, an array of patients cut right to the chase, as Dr. Pol and the team see them. Dr. Pol tends to horses, sheep, alpacas, pigs, cows, goats, chickens, and even an occasional reindeer, as he specializes in large farm animals. Since 1992, Dr. Brenda Grettenberger has worked with Dr. Pol, and the show also features her. As the name of the eighth episode suggests, this episode mainly focuses on pigs. Dr. Pol studied veterinary medicine at Utrecht University and graduated in 1970. He worked for a veterinarian for over ten years after moving with his wife Diane to Harbor Beach, Michigan. In 1981 they moved to Weidman, Michigan, and started their practice, Pol Veterinary Service.

His practice has shifted from large animals only to mixing with small animals. Emergencies make up a large part of his practice due to the unavailability of emergency animal hospitals in this rural area. In his many years of practice, he claims to have served over 19,000 clients. Since no new veterinarians come in to take care of the farm animals, he cannot retire, despite his advanced age. When he was an international student at Mayville High School in 1961, he met his wife, Diane. She was a teacher at Harbor Beach Elementary School and holds a master’s degree in specialized reading. The couple have been married for 50 years. As usual, we learned a lot about them, their history and the animals of the eighth episode.
