Rani Mukerji mourns the loss of Bappi Lahiri: ‘My mother is devastated’

Actress Rani Mukerji, whose mother Krishna Mukherjee was a childhood friend of Bappi Lahiri, has mourned the death of the late veteran music composer, popularly referred to as the ‘Disco King’, saying he will always be the most iconic musical personality of the Indian cinema.

Rani said: “India has lost one of its precious gems again… Bappi uncle is and always will be the most iconic musical personality of Indian cinema.”

“His music was legendary, his versatility as a composer was unparalleled,” added Rani Mukerji.

Rani Mukerji called Bappi Lahiri, who died at the age of 69 in a hospital in Mumbai, “a real self-made man, a great son to his parents, a great husband and a great father.”

Rani said that Lahiri’s death is a loss to her family.

“My mother and uncle Bappi were childhood friends from Calcutta. It is a personal loss to our family… My mother is devastated.”

Rani Mukerji added: “As the whole world mourns his loss, I can’t help but think of all the memories I have of him from my childhood. Will miss him very much. His smiling face and kind personality will always be a happy memory. I pray that Chitrani Aunt, Rema, Bappa and the whole Lahiri family find strength to cope with this loss. It’s too sad. He went too fast. Bappi uncle rest in peace. Heaven deserved an angel today!”
