It is a sad day indeed as actor Jack Smethurst has passed away at the age of 89. The actor died peacefully in the presence of his loved ones. The actor is best known for playing Eddie Booth on the popular sitcom Love Thy Neighbour. The late actor used to play the role of Eddie, who was a socialist labor leader in 1972.

The sitcom was successful for eight series until 1976. Besides the sitcom, Smethurst also appeared in films like Carry On Sergeant and was later followed by roles in films such as Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, A Kind of Loving with the popular ITV. sitcom For the love of Ada. As well as starting out on the popular series, Jack also played not one but four different characters on another hit series Coronation Street. He played a brewery draftsman in 1961 and went on to play the trickster Percy Bridge in 1967. He later appeared on the show from 1980 to 1983, as Johnny Webb, and also as one of the men on Eddie Yeats’ trash can tour. His role was changed again in 2001 when Smethurst returned to the show for several months as Stan Wagstaff. Stan was a friend of Jimmy Kelly, who left his lot to Jack Duckworth. While mourning the death of the actor, former EastEnders villain John Altman expressed his shock at the devastating news and said he was extremely saddened to hear of the passing of his old friend Jack Smethurst . John further recalled how much fun it was working with the actor and that he will always cherish the fond memories of the times they spent together.

Actors’ agency Pemberton Associates also said while expressing mourning the passing of their former client, Jack Smethurst. The agency praised the actor who has had a very long career and thousands of incredible stories and will always be remembered as a truly lovely man.
