Legendary singer Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar was given a “trial of extubation (of the invasive ventilator)” Thursday morning and is showing signs of improvement, the Mangeshkar family said in a statement.
The statement said “India’s Nightingale” is still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.
It read: “Lata didi is still under treatment in the ICU at Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai. She had a TRIAL of extubation (from the invasive ventilator) this morning.”
“Currently she is showing signs of improvement, but she will remain under the observation of the team of doctors led by Dr. Pratit Samdani. We thank you all for your prayers and good wishes.”
The 92-year-old legendary singer was hospitalized near her home in south Mumbai with Covid-19 and related health problems. She had tested positive on Tuesday (Jan. 11) after reportedly contracting the virus from one of the home helpers.
