Valentine’s Day is here! The day of February 14 is a special day for Bollywood, the film industry that has love as bread and butter. Today we celebrate in a slightly different way. Hint – It’s about the cash register!

We’re going to take a look at Bollywood’s Valentine’s Day releases and how they performed at the box office. We look at the releases from the last decade, namely 2011 to 2020. Surprisingly, only three major releases were released on the occasion of Valentine’s Day. Let’s see how they fared at the counter.


Gunday, starring Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan, was released in 2014. It got off to a great start thanks to its hit music and YRF name. However, it received mixed reviews from critics and even word of mouth was common. It ended its box office journey by making 76.55 crores and received a Plus rating.

Gully Boy

Gully Boy starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt was released in 2019. The film had a huge buzz since its announcement as it is said to be loosely based on the lives of rappers Divine and Naezy. Moreover, the trailer and the music also struck the right chord with the audience. The last thing was content, in which team Gully Boy knocked it out of the park! Since the film was aimed at young people, Valentine’s Day got off to a stunning start. In the life course, 139.38 crores and the Super Hit verdict came on board!

Love Aaj Kal

Love Aaj Kal starring Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan, released in 2020, had all the things that would make it good as a Valentine’s watch. It had a hot leading couple, Imtiaz Ali as the director and Pritam as the composer. It took a good start from over 12 croresunfortunately tanked by extreme reactions. It just deserved 37.74 crores and was a box office flop.
