‘dr. Stone’ is a Japanese post-apocalyptic science fiction anime series adapted from the manga of the same name by Riichiro Inagaki. It is illustrated by South Korean manga artist Boichi. The manga was first published in Weekly Shonen Magazine on March 6, 2017. As of January 2022, the Dr. Stone manga has been collected into 24 tankobon volumes and is about to complete 5 years of publication in March. The manga is still running successfully and has sold over 10 million copies. Together with the number of sales of the manga, I think it speaks for itself how much fans loved the series and want it to continue.
The anime adaptation of Dr. Stone was produced by TMS Entertainment and aired from July to December 2019. Its second season focused on the manga’s ‘Stone Wars’ arc and aired from January to March 2021. ‘Dr. Stone’ is the story of Senku Ishigami, a teenage scientist prodigy who wants to rebuild human civilization after a mysterious lightning bolt turns people around the world to stone in 2019 AD. Senku wakes up after 3700 years after that, with a new dream of reviving the ancient human civilization and saving mankind from death. In 5738 AD, Senku Ishigami, a child scientist prodigy, is humanity’s last hope.

The whole world turns to stone after a mysterious lightning strike in 2019 AD. 3700 years have passed with humans like stones. Then in April 5738 AD, a 15-year-old prodigy scientist, Senku Ishigami, is awakened to investigate the reason for this petrification. Senku sets up a base camp in order to study these humans and find a solution to revive human civilization. Over the next six months, he researches everything about the humans who turned to stone and managed to revive his friend Taiji Oki. Because of this, Senku learns that rebirth is possible with nitric acid.
With this information, the two develop a compound, Revival Fluid, to instantly revive people. They revive Tsukasa Shishiō, a famous martial artist, and Yuzuriha Ogawa, their classmate. Senku shares with them his dream of rebuilding the ancient human society with an emphasis on science. However, this is where it goes wrong. Tsukasa Shishiō opposes his idea and wants to build a new human civilization based on power and strength. He believed that the old world was defiled and should not be brought back. He is only one of the first obstacles on Senku’s path to creating a realm of science in this world.
Appearance and personality of Senku
Senku Ishigami is the protagonist of ‘DR. STONE’ and humanity’s last hope in 5738 AD. He is a lean, toned young boy of average height with bright red eyes. Her hair is almost brush-like, with two strands in the front, and is mostly white except for the light green ends. Kohaku can be seen even admitting that he looks very handsome, according to her. Senku has two symmetrical diagonal lines above his inner eyebrows, which are his stone marks.
After being depetrified, Senku also helps depetrify his friend Taiju Oki. Senku’s goal is to depetrify humanity, rebuild the civilization they lost, and ultimately build a society that emphasizes a scientific perspective. He wants to build a kingdom of science in the Stone World. In the Great Battle, he won, so he holds the title of Village Chief of Ishigami Village. Additionally, Senku is loved and considered a legend in the village due to Byakuya’s influence in founding Ishigami Village. Later in the series, he becomes a member of the Five Wise Commanders and offers them many ideas and plans.
In Senku’s own words, he is a child of technology, loving space and Mecha, who will save humanity without exception with the power of science.
Dr. Stone will complete 5 years of publication
In this year of March, ‘Dr. STONE’ will complete its 5th anniversary as soon as it starts publishing. In celebration, ‘Dr. STONE manga will receive the cover and main color page of Weekly Shonen Jump issue 13 to commemorate 5 years of publication. The manga will also get a second consecutive full-color page in issue #14.
Apart from that, fans will be glad to know that the third anime season is expected to air next year in 2023. And besides that, there will also be a special called “Dr. Stone: Ryusui”, premiering in July 2022.
