Yes! The Winter Olympics are here, and this time I’m not sitting at a copy desk in a Colorado ski town waiting for results from halfway around the world. I don’t know what to be happier about: my work inbox free of Olympic coverage plans, or my knowledge of skiers, snowboarders, cross-country skiers, etc., finally turns out to be useful.

The opposite is that I am no longer on the mountain at every opportunity; I’m in Chicago, where all you can do with snow is scold it and shovel it. Aside from the incredibly shocking lifestyle change, it’s nice to dive back into the world of winter sports after a ten-year hiatus from being immersed in it.

You may have heard of the following athletes, but if you haven’t already, let me introduce you. And if you do know them, let me give you a little refresher on the last time you saw (most of) them compete in Korea in 2018.

If you want to be angry about the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, be angry. The diplomatic boycott of the US, China accused of genocide and the ongoing pandemic are all good reasons. Also, just try to enjoy the athletes, because they didn’t pick the location of the most prestigious competition in their sport, and they don’t deserve to have their life’s work shitted because of the political landscape of that location.

Okay, here are the contestants that will hopefully give you “USA!” will make you sing. in a non-politically motivated, purely proud way.
