Hollywood actress America Ferrera has been roped in to co-star with Margot Robbie in ‘Barbie’, the upcoming movie from Warner Bros, Mattel and Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment.
Greta Gerwig is directing the film, based on a script she co-wrote with Noah Baumbach, with Robbie as the toy doll and Ryan Gosling as Ken, variété.com reports.
It is unknown who will play America Ferrera as details of the film’s plot are fantastically wrapped in plastic.
Best known for her Emmy-winning on-screen work in projects such as ‘Ugly Betty’, ‘Real Women Have Curves’, and as a voice actor in the popular ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ franchise,
America Ferrera expanded her resume to include production of the hit workplace comedy “Superstore” (in which she also starred in five of the show’s six seasons) and Netflix’s “Gentefied.”
America Ferrera also stepped behind the camera to direct multiple episodes of both shows. Ferrera will make her directorial debut with “I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter,” an adaptation of the New York Times bestseller, from author Erika Sanchez, who will co-produce the film.
She will next be seen opposite Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway in the limited series “We Crashed,” which debuts on Apple TV plus in March.
‘Barbie’ will begin production at WB’s Leavesden Studios in London early this year, with a theatrical release planned in 2023.
